Background & Plans
Just bought this 2002 GT (with 165k on the clock) last Fall. Drove it home from WI with LOTS of noise from the rear-end. The deal included a full LMR differential upgrade with new 3-73 gears and 31-spline axles. New to the Mustang platform, but not new to rear-wheel drive cars. My first two cars were Camaro's. Really liking the many reasonably priced upgrade options that the Mustang platform has to offer. I'll work through this coming season with the existing mods planned thus far.

I have already added a Roll-Bar (to include 5-point harnesses to replace stock seat belts), full-length sub-frame connectors (both good reasons to buy a reasonably-priced MIG welder) and BMR torque box reinforcements. Just got a pair of new Team-Z adjustable lower control arms for the rear and stock rubber bushings for the diff connection to the tubular/urethane upper arms (to try and minimize binding). Already sitting on Eibach Pro lowering springs, wheels are 18x9's up front and 18x10's out back. Rear tires are hard as rock, but will be replaced in the Spring. Added the slotted Cobra 13" rotors and calipers to the front, replacing the stock 10.5" GT brakes.

I have a bevy of new parts for under the hood; Ford Performance Intake, SR Performance CAI, new injectors, new ignition coils, all new hoses (cooling system and power-steering) as well as new front wheel bearings. New clutch, throw-out bearing and seals for rear-main and transmission also await. Currently rebuilding the differential. Stripped, cleaned and painted the rear axle housing and working on installing the new set of gears. Before I move to the trans/clutch, I'll be dropping the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump and screens/filter. I'll also weld in the battery relocation bracket in the trunk while the fuel tank is out. I have removed the driver's power seat system and replaced with a retrofitted passenger-side manual slide (shaving at least 40 Lb).
