I noticed that some models (Boss 302, GT500?) use 14mm studs instead of ½" studs. Not a huge difference (0.55" vs 0.50"), but there had to be a reason why Ford made that change. Anyone know the story?
The M14 studs have a higher clamping load at 150 ft lbs torque rating vs. 100 for the 1/2” stud. If I was needing hubs right now, I would make the conversion to the S550 hub and order them from OP Mustang with the GT4 studs installed. The GT4 studs are longer than the ARP studs, which would be nice for spacers wider than 25mm. Then as @captdistraction mentioned above, the rear axles can be converted with a little work.

My backs are still on back order, but the fronts shipped today. I am ecstatic. At least my new clutch and flywheel came with new ARP flywheel bolts, since I couldn't order them by themselves anywhere.

Still trying to get to a track but my trailer took a dump. Needs brakes, shackles, bolts and some broken springs. I bought the trailer in 1994 and it's got a billion miles on it ! I guess it doesn't owe me anything. 😫 Hope to see you out there soon !

When repairing trailer brakes…..don’t. Replace the entire backing plate, shoes etc as a unit. Once you have it apart, remove the nuts holding the bacing plate on, remove the unit and cut the wires. The cost savings of repairing over replacing is minimal if any. You can buy replacements from any trailer supply house online or through Amazon. Springs and shackles, same way. No need to replace spring leafs, do the whole spring.

Well, I got my FR hubs from Steeda yesterday. Those ½" ARP studs will work while we shake down the car this year, but I'll get the MSI M14 studs before we actually race next year.


My hubs arrived last week! Finally have time to work on the car in general but this summer "life" schedule seems to be superseding race schedule.

Totally agree with you. Way cheaper and faster to just switch out the brake assembly as a unit. Same with the springs. Way back when I bought the trailer it had surge brakes and they are garbage. Switched it to electric brakes many years ago. :hellyeah:

So does anyone on the thread or elsewhere have access to 1 or 2 studs? My new hubs for the front went in great. I was upgrading the rear's to have the APR lug bolts and managed to destroy the threading on 1 of the new bolts. So, I'd rather get an APR rear bolt if some has vs mismatching. otherwise may keep 1 stock and replace the rest. 1 rear hub done, now just short a bolt on the driver side.

Also need 2 nuts, will order a new set if OPMustang has, but if anyone has a couple 1/2" or a set they aren't using? Black, not yellow.
