Adjusting Lash on Ford Racing Ball joints

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

As I had a Ball joint loosen in the front Left control arm, I removed both left and right and checked/adjusted the Lash. Both were a little loose after 20+ Track days.

First you have to remove the ball joint from the spindle, and then remove the Ball joint from the Control arm -- it is screwed in, but you need a 1 59/64" Ball joint socket -- here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003IOEQ1O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Once the Ball joint is out, you need to remove the c-clip:

An the Hex Plate retainer:

At this point before dis-assembly I checked the Lash (see below) it was over a quarter turn loose, both sides.

Then unscrew the plastic hex adjuster cap to expose the ball:

Remove and clean. My wear patterns were fairly uniform:

Then re-assemble, and tighten the plastic adjuster until it contacts with the bottom of the ball, back off 1/8 of a turn and replace the retaining plate and the c-clip.

Add a couple of squirts of grease and re-assemble in the control arm. Torque spec for the control arm is 100 ft-lbs.

Looks good Nick, glad you were able to service them and not have to replace. I may retrofit them to my control arms this winter. Show me a picture of the welding of the threaded bushing in the control arm if you can.
Thanks
Steve

Steve,

Sorry for the delay. Had to replace a ball joint today. Here are a couple of shots of the sleeves that are welded in, with the ball joint mounted:
