New range of high-performance shims help reduce caliper overheat and the onset of brake fade in track and race conditions​

EBC Brakes Racing – the motorsport arm of EBC Brakes – is pleased to announce the launch of its titanium motorsport brake pad shims for a range of applications.
The reusable perforated shims offer impressive heat insulation between the brake pads and caliper, in turn dropping caliper temperatures up to a massive 90°F, as well as reducing the onset of brake fade and improving the lifespan of piston seals.

that would be a wrong assumption, convection heat transfer through air is terrible compare to conduction through even a poorly conductive metal.
Agree, but the distance between surfaces is 1mm. The heat is excessive and no other manufacturer, that I know of, has gone in this direction. I didn’t see a comparison of the two types in their listing and I was curious.
In rotors we stay away from holes because of the tendency for heat to cracking the metal at and because of these holes. This design add holes to a piece which will see high heat. I thought this as an interesting direction to move in and wonder if they had data comparing the two designs.

Across an airgap, there are two forms of heat transfer in action - convection and radiation. Convective is very low but radiative transfer can be very high over a short distance at high temperatures. We can speculate all we want but it's all just speculation until someone actually does a test. EBC's claim that it lowers caliper temps by 90 degrees suggests that the shims work as advertised. We might end up with a cooler caliper decorated with little round burn spots on the dust boots. We'll just have to wait and see.

For anyone that would like particular pad shapes that are not listed I will be putting together a spreadsheet and passing it onto the race department, if there are enough orders of particular shapes it is likely we can make them. Tooling for a one-off single order is very costly and not worthwhile unfortunately, but if there are 5-10 orders it would be worthwhile. I will be asking across all of the forums we are a part of, so even if there are only one or two here there may be more on another forum.

If you would like to have shims made for your pads, please message me directly in the inbox, include in your message the year/model car you have as well as the pad specifics if known.

SH1983 should work on both the Mustang GT 6 piston front brakes and the GT350 front calipers. Someone should PM @EBC Brakes and offer to take a set for a test-drive.

Presuming they're making a rear shim for Corvettes and Camaro's, it'll fit the GT350 when it's out. Dunno about GT rear brakes though - if it's one-pot slider, probably not.

We do have a comparison of perforated shims vs plain shims and non-shimmed pads in the below image.
