Seat mount fire extinguisher recommendations for 2016 GT 350.

I am wanting to put in a seat mount fire extinguisher and wanted to know if any of you have had personal experience with this? I have looked on the net at a few but wanted to get your personal experience and recommendations on what parts to get. Were you able to get a halon unit or are those just unavailable now? Wanted to do it the smart way and learn from your experiences. :) Thanks much.

The mounts for the S550 are slim pickings and nothing to match the quality and simplicity of the BFR unit. @pufferfish

I tried the Speed Tactics bracket combined with the Drake mount but I can't recommend it. The bracket, while well thought out and executed, flexes too much and when you combine that with the Drake mount that rattles the noise will drive you crazy on the road.

I bought a used (real) Halon extinguisher from a local fire extinguisher sales and service shop. It cost me $40 all in. While you can no longer purchase a new Halon ext but you can get them refilled so look for a used one in good condition.

Be careful with the ones you can purchase from LP racing. They are only refillable from the manufacturer. They are NOT UL rated and any reputable shop will not refill them. Sending them back to the manufacturer is a deal killer as the cost plus shipping both ways is the same as buying a new one.

Would you take a look at these parts and give me your impression?

For mounting the extinguisher to the seat bracket.

The extinguisher it self.

The seat bracket. I was told it bolts to 2 bolts that hold the seat to the sliding mechanism and not to the floor bolts.

I wanted a stronger bracket holding the extinguisher than the light spring over center kind that comes with any fire extinguisher. Those are too easy to hit with your foot or hand and accidentally release it.

Ok...good point. But I changed out my seats to fabric power bucket seats from a 2015 Mustang. I don't think they have that manual adjustment bar. The manual Recaro's are in storage.

I may have confused you when I stated that it was explained to me it mounted to the bolts that hold the seat(padded upper) to the sliding mechanism whether it be manual or power. Hard to explain but I hope I did well enough so you understand. I will up date once I get the parts and try to install them. Hopefully its not too much trouble...but I have a very good old school machine shop. :)

I looked at the SpeedTactics one on Ebay and it looks pretty good...mounts to the floor under the seat moving mechanism which I like. The Scott Drake bracket look like there is a lot going on there...nice but maybe to many things to rattle around. I'm a bit concerned about the H3R one in that it attaches and it hanging down from the seat. Wonder if that would cause any harmonics and vibration because its kind of dangling in space? Who knows... ???

Interesting. Looks more solid than the Speed Tactics. How much do they want for just the bracket and what is it made out of?

Powder coated steel but not sure yet on $. I haven't ordered mine yet. Post it here if you find out soon.

I would say that is a nice set up. One thing I would note on the extinguisher end of it. IF you have to use that extinguisher you will for sure hate the clean up. I have seen them used at the track and the powder ones create such a mess that you will never get it all cleaned up. There are some other better although more expensive extinguishers to consider that I've posted links to in this thread. This would be a good one to use on someone else's fire!!

See email response below. I've been toying with the idea of making and selling my own bracket and I may do just that.

"Hi Rick,

We sell it as a complete kit that uses Amerex 2.5 Lbs bottle, $260 if you want the Halotron bottle or $330 if you want
the Halon (identical size bottle with higher rating).
The mount can be installed on either driver or passenger side, which ever one you prefer.
It's a Steel bracket which is powder coated with our traditional pearl Gunmetal Gray, beautiful finish.
The bolt pattern is for 6 bolts, total distance from center to center on the outer bolts is ~4 7/8" and spacing between
the two rows is ~15/16", making it a direct bolt on pattern for the Amerex twin metal clamp bracket, see pics.

Let me know if you have any other questions or if you're ready to place an order, thanks!
