Weird wear marks / chipping where spider gears touch the case.

Bought this used and ran it in one 24 hour event. I don’t remember seeing this when I installed and I’m pretty sure this is something I would have noticed.

Did have some weird read end noises during the race on heavily loaded right handers. Got better and worse through the event. Never could nail it down. I assumed it was pinion bearing because that had not been replaced since I got this 8.8 out of the junk yard. Similar weird issues with the stock trak lok but felt more like one wheel wonder slipping at the time.

@PatientZero yep that sounds very familiar! did you figure out the cause on yours?
It's just a 8.8 thing. They don't all do it but alot do. It did it with the stock diff and 28 spline axles, now it does it with the TruTrak and 31 spline axles. It's been doing it as long as I've owned the car. Don't worry about it.

I was told it has something to do with axle flex and causing the rotors to contact the brake caliper brackets or something along those lines. I've never found any evidence to point to what it could be, I stopped worrying about it. I've had the rear end apart multiple times to change gears and nothing looks abnormal.

I replaced my lsd with a truetrac last season and got the exact same noises first time out after install. I thought something was broken but my builder said there was some kind of shimming or something he could do to fix it. I chalked it up to the gt500 caliper brackets that don't have anti moan clamps. Almost two seasons later it seams to be working fine and fluid changes look clean.

Found the evidence of rotor hitting the caliper bracket. Can definitely see how this would be the issue. Upgraded to cobra rear brakes and used my old caliper brackets after some clearancing. Probably not enough! Also no anti moan brackets!

The .061 really did matter. Was only able to recreate the noise once or twice in the 236 laps ran last weekend compared to almost every lap last year. Also I have an extra set of the rear cobra caliper brackets that fixed it because rock auto was slow shipping and it was crunch time. Dm if interested.
