Lap time details

MoE HPDE day at NJMP Thunderbolt.
First time on this track, second track day ever for me. This was the final session of the day without the instructor. Still plenty of room for improvement so all suggestions and comments welcome!

Nice lap, especially for being new to the track and track days in general. You took turn three like a champ! I drive this track all of the time and I don’t think I’ve taken that turn over 100mph like you did. You were definitely on the limit for those tires. Try a set of Supercar 3R’s sometime. The Mustang loves them!!

Thank you, sir. For some reason I have more confidence going 100 on that turn but not on turn 12 🤷‍♂️ Hopefully I see you out there sometime. I may go back on Columbus day.
I've heard nothing but great things about the Supercar 3R's both on here and from a GT350 guy I met at the track this past session. Guess they will be next once these 3's are worn down and the guy behind the wheel gets better.

Funny, I just built up to taking turn 12 at just over 100mph. It took me over two years of driving that track to get there. Turn three has become my new project - my goal is to hold 100 (I’ve been close). Given the weight of these cars, I think the 3R’s are ideal. I’ve run through a couple sets of Michelin Pilot SC2’s which were really good, but really expensive. I’ve also run Continental Extreme Contact Force, which were less good (probably similar to your tires) but much less expensive than the SC2’s, and they last a really long time (roughly eight track days = 32 sessions). Neither of them compare to the 3R’s. The car behaves much better on those. They aren’t terribly expensive, but depending on how you drive you may only get four or five track days out of them before they start giving up grip. Tracks such as Thunderbolt are easier on tires than others (since it’s been repaved). If you drive Lightning you’ll notice it chews up tires.
