Move to Florida, I'll move my crap out of my garage, you can stay in my apartment until you get a place. I would recomend a " taxpayer" arrangement where you live in the same place you work, great tax benefits. A buddy just built a 50x100 metal building, garages, living space etc etc on 5 acres.
I can't make you a better offer.
That's very generous, thank you.
Unfortunately I'm here till at least August of 2025 when my shop lease expires.
I'll also be 66 1/2 by then so I'll be looking to retire....not sure how I'm gonna make that work just yet.
Meanwhile maybe just one more racing season....do I have it in me?
Stay tuned!

Ummm...I vintage race with a one armed 70+ year old gentleman. He races a '67 GT350 that was actually campaigned in the late 60's and early 70's. He has a prosthetic from his elbow down on his right arm. The hand has a mechanical grip that latches on the Toploader 4-speed shifter. He's one of the fastest in the group.

Don't let age slow you down...

You will likely find plenty of places to move to if you decide to after you retire Fabman, and surprisingly there are many places where after selling your home in California you will find much lower overall costs of living. We have fairly high property taxes in Nebraska , for instance ,but we have very low utility rates, home prices are reasonable, lower insurance rates, no tax on groceries, and fuel prices on the lower end. Plenty of States can give you similar benefits, as most are aware California has some great weather, but it has become pricey in key areas. You will be able , if you wish, to move to many different places and get solid track time and likely be able to work on the side and dabble in what you have done most of your life. No real hurry, plenty of time to look around if you are considering changing the area of the US you live in, but don't worry about racing, or driving fast, as there are plenty of folks on here that are still racing, doing Time Trials , or autocrossing well into their 70s. I stopped racing W2W at 70 , but only because I was feeling guilty about often having to ask folks with help with changing tires or other items due to a bad back. But that just meant I went back to Time Trials , autocrossing and more. 72 now, and will be campaigning a new car this year , but playing on asphalt is what keeps one young -- I do so agree with what Patrick Stapler noted!

I sold my house when I moved to the bay area in '95 so, no house. :(
Then I sold all my furniture, car, truck, house hold items etc. when I moved to Hawaii in 2006 with a crate full of Music gear and a back pack. (Shipped my brand new Mustang)
Everything I have of any real value is here in my shop or gear in my music studio, which I'm too old to play anymore....hands don't work like they used to.
Still got a handful of Les Pauls, Strats, Basses, acoustics and Marshall stacks laying around. Got a whole Double wide roll away tool box full of effects pedals.....those will all have to go too I suppose.
States I've been looking at are Idaho, Texas, Tennessee and Florida.

A lot of Tennessee still has reasonable housing costs. There is no state income tax but sales tax is 9.25%. The winters are relatively mild. The Knoxville area averages less than 5 inches of snow annually. There are some great tracks within 4 hours radius.

Tennessee is building two new tracks ( Flatrock and Tennessee Downs ) and it is close to many other great road courses. It would be a good choice for me if I was moving as the closeness to so many places to burn up rubber is enticing .

Some of those guitars would buy a home there too, ha.

Last couple winters, the jet stream has taken a big loop south and brought unusually cold weather to TX (and the rest of the Midwest), and they aren't really set up for it down there. Natural gas utility in the DFW area was sending out daily texts during the cold snap a few weeks ago for people to turn down the thermostats because pressure was getting low. Last winter, the windmills froze up and not only did people lose electricity (which many use for heat), but the NG pumping stations lost power as well.

Nice to live in Nebraska, where it can get super cold and was during part of January, but since it is the only State with public owned utilities we seem to always be geared up for the chilly weather --- and rates have been some of the lowest in the US for well over 4 decades. JDee, come on down, it will be in the 50s today but all the snow has not melted yet!

I moved out of SoCal (Lancaster/Palmdale) back in 2011, went to Northwest Iowa for about 7 years, moved to middle Tennessee back in 2017. Love it here! If I could make the choice again, I would have moved to the Knoxville area. For us TN has been great for family life and is business friendly.
I lived in Lancaster in 1986 worked for Rockwell on B1 bomber.

Huntsville, AL…#1 city in the United States last year…just sayin’. 90 minutes to Barber. 3.5 hours to Road Atlanta and Atlanta Motorsports Park. As mentioned, two new tracks coming to TN. 8 hours to Mid-Ohio and Carolina Motorsports Park. 3 hours to National Corvette Museum.

And…less than 6 hours from some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

I love Huntsville, prefer to visit it over Franklin TN.

Growing up in Lancaster/Palmdale was cool in the sense that we always had some cool military aircraft flying overhead. My brother and I saw the SR71 twice, so cool! The B1 was mega loud, but the U2 sounds like a friggin rocket until it disappears in the sky and throttles back. Willowsprings was our home track and where I raced karts growing up. I hate the wind, the nonstop strong dusty dry wind and would never ... NEVER move back.

The wind would start a 3pm like clockwork. The day I left it was a huge storm. I bought this econoline from the glass company in Lancaster and drove it to Boston Ma. I think pic was in New MexicoIMG_6404.jpeg
