New rotors and pads!

Went with G-LOC R12 and Girodisc 2 piece rotors. It'll be my first HPDE with the S550 (went to this track many years ago with my NC Miata...) so hopefully the setup will be good enough. Also have Vorshlag brake cooling deflectors on order and will be flushing the brake fluid with Castrol SRF.

Unfortunately the car is parked outside normally, and the brake components were quite rusty and difficult to remove...

Finally got the rotors off with some PB Blaster penetrant and a 4lb hammer ✌️

This video helped a lot -

Aside from dealing with rusty components, I found these how-to videos quite helpful:
LMR - "How To Change Mustang Brake Pads & Rotors (2015-2023)" -

kevkel33 - "S550 Mustang Performance Package Brembo Front Pads and Rotors swap" -

Picking up some new OEM caliper mounting bolts from a local dealer today and will be installing the new rotors and pads soon!

Got the pads and rotors installed last night and went for a quick shakedown run. Feeling really strong with linear modulation so far, looking forward to trying it out on track.

Installing the new pads was a bit tricky without a caliper spreader tool, ended up using trigger clamps and the old pads to push the pistons back but I have a spreader on order to make future swaps easier.

On the same day I decided to remove the factory brake cooling deflectors while the rotor was out of the way and proceeded to shear off a bolt 😑...

Thinking of drilling out the sheared bolt and chasing the threads with a tap or maybe just go with a nut and bolt in the through hole 🤔

Anyhoo, the Vorshlag deflectors should be arriving next week as well as a Steeda lower grille delete!

Any chance you have a picture of the stock PP deflectors next to the Vorshlag ones? Considering getting those whenever I replace the current pads.

Awesome, thank you! I've obviously seen them on the Vorshlag website but never saw a side by side comparison. I should probably do it sooner than later before that bolt rusts and seizes up on me :)

Haha for sure! It actually wasn't that bad. For some reason I read the note on Vorshlag's website about using penetrating oil and somehow misremembered it as "use an impact gun" 🙃. I used a ratchet for the remaining bolts after shearing one with the impact gun and they came out relatively easily.

Your '22 car should be in better shape than mine, good luck!

I put anti-seize on the hub/rotor areas per that video and have never needed a sledgehammer again... and I'm on a salt air coast where everything rusts quickly. Saves a whole lottta headache when messing with the wheels and brakes next time.
Yeah I'll be using anti-seize moving forward. Also got a rotor puller that works for rotors up to 17" just in case (many of the rotor pullers I came across max out at 14" or so).

Got the Vorshlag brake cooling deflectors installed today. I must have work hardened the sheared bolt that's stuck inside the control arm while attempting to extract it (or my chicken wing arms can't keep enough pressure on the drill) so I gave up and just used the two other mounting holes along with extra large fender washers. Feels solid enough so hopefully that'll work for the time being. Also epoxied the exposed hole to prevent exposure to the elements.

Driver side using all mounting holes.

Also got the OPR titanium shims and new brake hardware kit (Raybestos AGB-H18225A) installed. The caliper spreader tool (Lisle 29100) made the job really easy .

Nice and shiny (for now...)

While the car was on jack stands, decided to do the Steeda lower grille install as well.

That's it for today!

Yesterday during the grille installation, I sadly discovered that my passenger side bumper tab by the fender was broken.

Was about to order the quick latch solution but was hoping for a more stealthy solution. Ended up finding this method on YouTube which worked pretty well 👍

Got my Garmin Catalyst mounted and wired up today.

This video for a dash cam install gives a good idea of how to remove various interior panels and where/how to route cables:

Ordered a ProClip mount which had the perfect hole pattern to align to the Catalyst's AMP mounting plate. Drilled the holes out to fit some M5x20mm socket head cap screws I had and used those to assemble the two parts together.

gps550-0903-2.jpg

The fitment on the dash was great and pretty easy to remove when not needed.
gps550-0903-5.jpg

Tested out the placement prior to routing all the cables for the Catalyst.
gps550-0903-6.jpg

The glovebox has some nice cutouts that allows cables to pass through, which I then routed behind the trim panels.

Once the cable reached the A-pillar I zip tied it along a few points to the factory wiring harness.

Routing at the camera and mount.

How the car's sitting today, it needs a wash but is otherwise getting pretty close to ready for its first HPDE session 😁
