Different Oil Separator Installations

Thinking about getting an oil separator on the passenger side... Was wondering if anyone had any opinions about JLT versus Moroso...The Moroso looks more durable and I like the fact that is has all metal fittings. Looks like you might run into less problems with it breaking... Any thoughts? (I know the Moroso is a little more expensive, but I'd rather pay a little more if it's going to last longer. I heard though that I might need to replace those"heater hoses" as they're not really designed to withstand oil)

I watched the video by KBBOSS and it reminded me of the sound my motor makes with no breathers and me being such a freakin "nancy", now im worried sick !

Check out this vid i made in Oct. Please and let me know if this sounds normal or what ya think it might be... oh yea - i have kooks SSshortys and cat deletes.

Going from JDM tune to TrackKey via my SCT makes no difference in sound. I never heard it before until I made the video checking for that "ticking" sound.

Thanks Guys !

I am not understand what it is in that video that is making you worried, care to elaborate?

The vacuum right at the beginning of the throttle tap. I thought it was normal intake sound, but maybe I misread KBBoss issue with the breather and the vacuum sound he was getting ?

Maybe I'm just

KBBoss's video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCgH5gkO4t0&feature=youtu.be
"Scott: Here is a link to some video I shot a little while ago. Prior to shooting it I double checked all the hoses and fittings i could see. I also removed the foam next to in the intake and around the fuel rails. Not that it would affect the vacum sound but I was surprised how loud the engine is...sound almost like a diesel! When you hear the puffing I'm slightly and quickly tapping the throttle. Thanks for taking the time to check this out."

You will get a sort of vacuum leak sound when tapping the gas like that. The sound you car is making may be more then that. However there is no way I can tell what the sound is, where exactly it is coming from and other things you need to standing next to car to see and hear. Even if I was standing there I am not a master tech by any means and not sure I could pin point the problem.

I would take it to a tech you trust, if you can not I would listen closely around the intake where it attaches to the head and around the injectors. If you hear the noise at idle you can spray carb cleaner around these spots and listen for an idle change. Sorry I can't help more but as I said it is too hard to diagnose anything from a video.

Thanks Guys ! I think it may be normal but just to be safe I sent out a request to the awesome speedshop who installed my headers last June ( JDM Engineering). I'll let you guys know what they think and bring it to them if anything is suspect.

Dean...Thanks for all the info and ideas!
Finally got around to taking out the JLT today and went with a black Moroso can:

Grant,
Where did you get that Moroso kit? I want the Moroso unit but I don't like the standard hoses. You seem to have different hoses.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Got the can here:

These are some of the links to the hose and connectors:

Look at some of the installations on the first couple of pages in this thread. You don't have to use all the hose ends, etc. that I did. The screw clamps are a lot more economical if you're just looking to use the hose. Hope that helps!

Grant,
Thanks for the links! I have received the Moroso can and am awaiting the bits and pieces for the upgraded hose setup. Question though...where did you get the hose cut to length and the ends attached?

You're welcome Chris. Just did it in my driveway! No special tools required. Just be careful measuring and mocking up where you want the hose to go *before* you cut! I don't have the AN type wrenches, but was just very cautious when tightening the fittings.

Save the dawn for your dishes!!!
When cutting an line wrap it in tape where you are going to cut. This will keep the end from fraying. I use a cut off wheel on my grinder. A hacksaw will work too. When I place the fitting over the line I then bump it on with a rubber maillot. Then dip the end in engine oil and insert it and slowly screw it together.

Here is the one I made from the instructions. Painted the canister and wrapped it. I also used a Stainless Steel Blackener to blacken the T-Bolt clamp.

For those looking to make a breather bracket like the design Scott used and another member created I now have it scanned and can email a PDF to you. Please send me a PM with your email address and I will forward it to you. Below is a photo of the document.

Hello all,

I'm about to add the Moroso oil separator to by Boss and have read over this thread a few times. I'm about to order all the AN hose fittings and hose from Summitt.

Question. I noticed Dean's Moroso canister (Pictures on pg. 1) is facing a different direction than the others. The Moroso logo on Dean's canister is facing the rear of the engine bay, while everyone else (and the directions from Moroso) show it facing the front of the car. I know on most oil separators, there are definite "in" and "out" openings. Is this not the case with the Moroso?

Any thoughts/comments on this. Thanks...

The openings on the sides of the Moroso are both covered by metal screens and you can't tell anything by looking at the bottom.

Guess I'll have to read the instructions........ {sigh} ::)
