It's that time of year again. The Haas team released some renderings of their upcoming car:

Fingers crossed they make up some ground this year.

Really hopeful that the performance from top to bottom of field will be closer with the new cars.

Amazing how long these cars are (same with the prior generation). Can anyone provide insight into why they're so long?

Packaging. They've got all the hybrid junk in there that has to be packaged and it takes space. The stuff with all the acronyms, the MGU-H, MGU-K and the like. Plus some of it is for crash management, controlled crush spaces and so forth. Prolly other things as well, I'm no expert on it for sure.

To me these "releases" are more of a livery/colorway release. I think we'll have a better idea of what the cars will actually look like after the 2nd pre-season test. Still interesting.

Yeah, no.
I think that F1 cars these days are among the ugliest things ever created. It's just one of many reasons why I stopped watching F1 quite a while ago. Far rather watch racing based on real cars that ordinary people might be able to acquire and can thus identify with. The personalities of most of the people involved are another reason.....

Unlike JDee I love the unique design and minor changes that can make Formula One racing machine faster than another, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My son and I both are huge F1 fans, but he does not like Indycar because he thinks they are super ugly. I seldom disagree with JDee and I respect that he is not an F1 fan, but I also look at all the advancements that have come out of the most advanced auto racing series on the Planet. Folks still complain because there is not the amount of passing as with Indycar , Nascar, V8 Supercars, etc. but it is much higher than it was a decade ago, and the new design is to encourage even more. I also, as an amateur racer, respect the immense talent it takes to drive one of these hybrid beasts, and we have seen over the years how difficult it is to drive one of these machines quickly. I look forward to each year, the personalities may be a bit different than in some racing series, but it is the top rung regardless if it is your favorite. The technical advances are a strong basis for F1 and even those who love the sport will argue about the direction that should go. I live on the side wanting the advances to go forth full bore , but those who want a more level playing field are winning that discussion. That is fine, the racing may be a bit better, but I see F1 as the test bed for future advances within the automotive community and I hope the reins stay reasonably free.

The great thing about racing, is it is such a passion among so many in the World, it is quite unbelievable there are so many venues when one thinks about it, so JDee and I having a minor disagreement about one series is so insignificant , considering the ridiculous types of racing that exists in the World.

Dirt Track, Midgets, Indycar, Rallyes, Nascar ( so many classes to list ), V8 Supercars, F1, SCCA amateur racing , Autocross, NASA amateur racing, Grid Life, Time Trials , Hill Climbs, F2,F3,F4, IMSA, LeMans Prototypes, Porsche Cup, Ferrari Cup, Lamborghini Cup, Formula E, WRC, Trans Am, World Challenge, Drag Racing, etc...........................

And for many of us just hanging out with friends, at a track or autocross, is a special experience and though usually at an amateur level, it has a level of camaraderie that is great at bringing folks together, whether they like all the same forms of racing or not.

I used to agree till watching Romaine Grosjean's accident a few years back and some recent issues with tires flying off. I am guessing you are talking about how much prettier the cars were then and no argument there at all.

I think it's partly the hubcaps, but also that the tire diameter appears to be the same or close. So the black circles of the wheel & tire (do I have to spell it tyre when talking F1?) are still in the same proportion to the rest of the car.
